I'm a guitar teacher and I started teaching to a large group of students [15 to 25]since last week. The guitars we have it our schools are very bad and would not stay in tune. I take 2 classes a day each 1.5 hours long 4 days a week. And ever since I started this shift I'm experiencing headaches 24/7 and usually gets very extreme right after i finish all my classes.

Also I just got back from a month long travel and it summer time here in my country, so first I thought it was because of that, but now I think out of tune music from the guitar is adding fuel to the fire.

I have experienced this before as well, at concerts, music competitions etc.. but this time on a regular basis, so I'm having a bit of a problem here.

Well, my first reaction is, if you are a guitar teacher why are you posting on a trumpet site?

To your question: stress can cause headaches. Guitar hell can cause stress. But if it persists, I would have a talk with my doctor since it could be something else.

If the stress persists, then so will the headache. If it is chronic and persistent, I have a great medication that works well in my parents wanting medical therapy.

@kehaulani-0 I posted here because this was the only site addressing my problem as far as I could find, there was an older thread that talked about this issue and I tried replying to it but I was asked to create a new topic instead.

With posts like this, I wonder about the REAL REASON behind asking the question. No doubt, headaches can be caused by MANY things, but considering that essentially ALL MUSIC, depending on perspective is out of tune (mean tuning, well tempered, just tuning, various historic tuning schemes etc.), I wonder if the problem is not self generated, if ones tolerance (having to teach a big group) simply is the problem.

I don't think that the instrument being played nor the quantity is critical. I think that stress is a function of attitude and has deeper roots.

As far as instruments not holding tune, that is certainly something that can be fixed - one instrument at a time.

If we do not have what it takes to teach big classes, then don't. I believe that teachers are born, not "taught".

Chemicals are certainly a workaround and not a solution.

I bet that there is much more to the story. My hunch is that to stay employed, taking the large group was delegated regardless of the teachers opinion or excuses why not.
