Trusted Sellers

While you any registered member can post a for sale/wanted ad, I have created a new group called "Trusted" sellers. This group will consist of people who have had five positive sales interactions on the forum so far. I am still working on how to determine this...so please post your ideas here. It's a bit of a compromise from the old format on TrumpetMaster and the format on TrumpetHerald, but I believe that it will work.

Can a seller post a "link" to a horn for sale on an auction site or Reverb?

Sure. Just put it in the same category you would post it if you were listing it here.

I suggest including a minimum number of upvotes as a factor in determining a Trusted seller.

I can truly support that Ivan from Jaeger Trumpets and Austin Custom Brass (who I believe is already authorized) are amazing. It appears Flugelgirl also has an affiliation with selling horns. From her posts and amazing trust an intellect, I would strongly support authorizing her as a Seller as well.

@Dr-GO Thanks for the vote of confidence. My official title at QTE is Brass Repair Tech, but I do answer a ton of customer questions related to sales and occasionally assist with sales at the igloo. As I am still awaiting an answer to both credentialed professional and repair tech groups, I don’t anticipate that a request to a third group will have much traction.

That's a great idea. Currently, we don't really have enough users for this to be a concern. When we get a few thousand then I will start implementing ideas like this. Thank you for your input.

I am constantly keeping an eye out for a certain person who is a reasonably well known trumpet player in NYC who I dealt with about 10 years ago. If that person ever shows up shows up here I will warn everyone about that particular person's dishonesty.

@Brian-Moon I have seen your kind of post at other sites about other kinds of transactions. On my sites I've banned all personal disputes, particularly person bashing, over deals gone bad since there is little chance that both sides of the story will emerge and sometimes innocent people get slammed wrongly. If I were the Global Moderator I'd think on this before letting such, "done me wrong" posts be allowed.

If the person given a title pays the site money they should be noted as a sponsor and noted that the titles are not gratuitous but a matter of traffic.

Should we get a legal opinion as to whether this site could be held liable for any deal from such a Trusted Seller going south?

I see no reason why I, or anyone on here would be in the least bit liable for the behavior of a single individual. Using this site in no way means that I condone everything that occurs on it.

@administrator The problem isn't that you will encounter some legal hassle so much as you risk losing trust when your site lends credibility to any transaction beyond your control by endorsing a seller and there is any kind of problem.

Once upon a time at my milsurp site a "trusted" moderator was going to organize a group buy on something that he said he could buy cheap in bulk and import from Canada. The deal went sour and I don't know if everybody who bought in got their money back when the "trusted" moderator went south never to be heard from again. I learned my lesson and there were no more group buys allowed.

Drawing lines will sometimes run people off who are otherwise good site information contributors. Once I deleted a "he done me wrong" post from a moderator who was probably the most respected and knowledgeable in his particular expertise field and was looked up to by many. He went away to post his hurt feelings on the particular transaction on other sites of a like kind that allowed it to stand. Later it was found out the whole thing was a big misunderstanding and the person labeled a crook was nothing of the kind. The "expert" came back with an apology all around and life went on. However the damage to the reputation of the person blasted had already been largely done.

Good point. I would think the take-away would be, though, to just make a distinction between offering forum space to advertise items for sale as opposed to endorsing a particular seller.

You would need to make it clear that in this "Trusted Seller" category, it merely means that the seller/buyers have met certain requirements that point to their credibility but does not endorse them, personally.

Ironically, I have seen sellers with good creds for years, only to have a transaction go very badly, and it was their doing, no matter their past track record.

@Niner The person I speak of his is a crook and I doubt that they will ever show up here. Unless this person is an anonymous user; I have never seen them on any forum that I have been on. If they wanted to take a shot at me they are welcome to try. I would like to make sure that they aren't ever able to steal from anyone ever again.

This happened on Fleabay around 12 years ago. Now that I think of it there is another one from the Chattanooga area from about the same time period.

Unfortunately, in today's world a person can sue a ham sandwich. Its not that you'd be liable, its do you want to put up with a potential headache from some yokester that hires some ambulance chaser to give you grief? True they probably won't win, but who needs the fight?

The post "Trusted Sellers" simply suggests venues and shops to look for an item and not a recommendation to purchase an item. Purchases are the sole responsibility of the individual(s)

My comment wasn't a judgement about you. It was about should the site entertain a revenge post and offer sympathy for an argument outside of the bounds of the site from anyone. It isn't up to me what this site does or doesn't do, of course, just my judgement that letting anyone do such a posting wouldn't do the site any good.

An interesting comment on that. When I first arrived in Germany, that spilled boiling coffee lawsuit in the U.S. was met with, "That would never happen here".

Thinking that implied that there would never be a lawsuit was met with, "No. It means that none of us would admit, publicly, to having done something that stupid."

Oh My! How about cooler heads and warmer hearts. If someone joins that's a crook, a private chat about the person will spread and can do the trick under the radar I would think.
