I've been playing trumpet/cornet for over 50 years. I'm a retired EE with a music degree obtained after early retirement. I'm not an expert in anything I know about, I'm a pretty good player, not a great player, I'm not an ultra high-note screecher, but I do love to play my horns.
In the next week or two, or three...I'm going to finally buy the perfect mouthpiece, have my horn completely modified, and become the great player I hear in my head. Then I'll be an expert on everything
