Flugel Thread
-
I noticed there was no flugelhorn thread yet. That can’t be tolerated, so let’s get one going.
Share your flugel pictures, stories, favorite flugel players/songs/albums. Share what mouthpiece(s) you use, brands/makes you’d like to try...etc...

Barely 4 years younger than me!
I use a Monette Prane FLG6 (Couesnon shank) mouthpiece.
-
My Couesnon Monopole @1980, so helas far younger than me...
Trigger added by Atelier des Cuivres: helps a lot. Played with an humble Stork Flugel mouthpiece

Trying again...!
Youpee, seems to be ok!

@Voltrane
Monopole with triggers!
What year? -
I bought it used and very cheap in 1981 from a guy that “ couldn’t play it”! In fact it was quite brand new and the bell has a modern engraving so I think it was made @1980.
The trigger was added later by Atelier des Cuivres. It helps a lot! -
The bell engraving:

There was a sweet Getzen Flugle on SGW last week. I was in on the bidding close to $400. Just couldn't go higher, without playing.

After a couple years of patina. The picture isn’t the best quality...but gives you an idea.
-
Recently acquired for 350 euros.

Queenie...right?
Looks nice!

Here's the horn with the best intonation that I've played so far, my c.1983 Yamaha YFH-731, purchased new and modified by an exceptional tech who allowed me to assist him and work with him from time to time. He was always willing to show me how to do anything I was interested in.

@Kujo20
Yes it is a Queenie.
Thanks -
My beloved flugelhorn the Kanstul 1526 (4 valve version)
AND a video of me playing the horn with one of the medical students I had the pleasure of teaching as a Professor of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at the Boonshoft School of Medicine at Wright State University: -
Now for my Getzen Eterna. Here is a pic of that horn and a recording from the Eddie Brookshire Quintet recording of "Surrendered Life" in which I am playing the solo on that cut with this horn.
-
@Dr-GO Nice solo, thank you
-
NIIICE!!!
